Hi everyone!
One of my family members recently left the country, and luckily for me he is an artist and left behind some of his stuff. I received a whole bunch of pencils/charcoal/sketchpads/paints/canvases, the only problem is I am really bad at drawing and I've never taken the time to learn how. I've watched some tutorial videos on youtube and they've helped a bit, but I was wondering if anyone here had some tips for me? For example, is there a specific technique that I should learn to do first? I'm mainly interested in drawing with pencils on a sketchpad, not painting.
Are any of you into drawing? If so, link your deviantart if you have one so we can check it out.
Today I'll leave you with this image from Paulo Brandão which I found on a website compiling 15 images using exposure techniques. Wonderful.

Little Richard
One of the most honest and focused musical artists I've ever come across. Being gay and black in the 50s probably weren't the best social circumstances, but look what he managed to do with it! He could either be an outcast or play Rock 'n Roll. This album cover really strikes a chord with me when taking into account the musical context.
What do you think of Little Richard? Artistic genius or overrated?

Elbow
Recently discovered this band, and there's really not much I can say. Extremely deep lyrics and relatively simple music, but it's very emotional.

Darker Handcraft
Going with more album artwork today, this is from an album entitled "Trap Them - Darker Handcraft". If you're into the more hardcore/crust side of heavy music, definitely check this out. One of the most striking album covers I've seen for a while.
One last post for the night continuing with the Devin Townsend theme -- cover art for Terria. It does a fantastic job of conveying the album's message and themes. I would highly recommend the album if you haven't heard it, check it out!
Drench.
Just a quick note -- Devin Townsend is nearing closer to releasing his next two albums (Deconstruction & Ghost), and naturally there has been some preview tracks available. This is one of them. A haunting bass solo from Ghost....very chilling, very ambient. Check it out here: http://soundcloud.com/ghostdt/drench
Start.
Hello, welcome to my new blog.
It seems I've arrived at post #1, so I guess I should say what I intend on doing here. Basically I just want to share my thoughts on art and life. Whether it be a painting of a piece of music, I'm eager to share.
Thought I'd start with this gem. Renoir. Seine at Asnieres. Beautiful.
